Tournament

The international youth tournament Basketball Wien takes place already for the 22th time during easter holidays from April 02 - 07, 2012.

The tournament is played in 6 different age groups (boys and girls) and the two biggest age groups are divided into two levels.

Beside the regular tournament a great variety of activities are provided:

The tournament is played in 6 different age groups:

Each player is allowed to play in one team in the same age-group only and must be able to proove his/her age with a valid ID or passport. Für Österreicher reicht auch der offizielle Spielerpass.
Each team may comprise as many players as you want, but only 12 players are allowed to play at one game. Mixed teams are allowed only at the group MU12, where girls can play together with boys.

The tournament will be played in two different levels for age groups MU18, MU16, WU16 and MU14: level HIGH and level LOW.

Tournament Rules

The tournament will be played in accordance with the FIBA (possession arrow for ALL age groups) except the following points:

2 time-outs per half time

4 personal or technical fouls

3 team fouls per quarter

In the event of a draw in the group games "sudden death" decision will be operated, in the play offs the game will be continued with extra periods of 2 minutes

U14, U13 and U12: only man defence is allowed

Age group U12: freethrow line is 4 m from the backboard, no jump ball

Ball size: U12 (boys and girls) size 5, all other girls size 6, all other boys size 7

Groups of 4 or 5 teams playing against each other - the 2 top ranked teams of each group move up to the next round. The classification will be made according to FIBA rules.

In some age groups also the best third ranking teams (BO 3rd) will qualify for the next round. To determine the ranking, the goal average will be used taking into account only the results of the games against the 2 top ranking teams of the group. In case of a tie the decision will be made by toss of a coin. Playing Time

4 x 8 minutes stopping clock (half time interval 3 minutes, quarter brake 1 minute) U12: 4 x 6 minutes stopping clock

Game Plan

Games will start on Tuesday, April 03, 2012 from 8 o'clock in the morning. Final games will take place on Friday, April 06, 2012 and on Saturday, April 07, 2012. On Saturday the last game will be finished by 4.00 p.m. The game plan will be fixed approx. 2 weeks before beginning of the tournament and will be published on the website.

Friendship Games

Friendship games can be organized for eliminated teams. For friendship games one referee and the gym is provided. An opponent team has to be found by the team.

General

Immediately upon your arrival in Vienna the head coaches have to report to the tournament secretriat! There they will get for each participant a card - GUESTCARD, which must be shown at mealtimes and at the lodging-schools, and which serves as tram ticket for Vienna.

At our INFOPOINT at "Wiener Stadthalle" we hand out the team responsibles following material:

The arrival-day is Monday, April 02, 2012

There has to be made a deposit of 100,- EURO for each room (cash). At correct return of the rooms the deposit will be given back.

The return of the rooms (in cleaned condition) has to be made on Saturday, April 07, 2012 not later than 10.00 a.m.

The lodging-schools will be distributed among the clubs after fixing the game plan (approx. 2 weeks before beginning of the tournament)

Each club will get - depending on the number of participants - a minimum of 1 sleeping-room, which can be locked (subject to number of lodging rooms).

For sleeping everybody requires:

Air-mattress or a sleeping-mat

Sleeping-bag or a cover

Showers can be used only at the tournament-playing-courts.

Night's rest starts at 11.00 p.m. All schools will be closed without exception between 0.30 a.m. and 6.00 a.m.

If you need lodging before Monday, April 02, 2012 or from Saturday, April 07, 2011 we can send you information about hotels and youth-hostels in Vienna by mail.

Transport

The trip to Vienna has to be organised and payed by the clubs themselves.

Arrival by car or bus:

For Austrian highways you have to pay toll.
Short-term-parking zones in Vienna: 1st - 9th and 20th district.

Arrival by train:

Station "Westbahnhof": From there the underground U6 and U3 will bring you to the tourmanent office and your logding-school. If you will arrive at the station "Südbahnhof" or
"Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof" we can explain you the way to the tourmanent office and your logding-school. Weg zum Turniersekretariat oder in die Unterkunftsschule beschreiben.

Arrival by plane: (Airport Vienna Schwechat):

Airport-busses or trains will bring you to Vienna.
Please ask for further information.

All tournament locations can be easily reached by underground (the ticket is included in the Guestcard).

The city of Vienna with its attractions offers a very attractive surrounding for the tournament. Beside the basketball tournament we are offering a wide range of additional activities:

Sightseeing Tour

A free City Sightseeing Tour is offered to all teams. On this tour most important attractions will be visited: historical center, Schönbrunn Palace, Prater (Giant ferris wheel), Hundertwasser House,..

Dunking Contest

Another big attraction is the dunking contest where the winners will get prices from the merchandise shop.

Tournament disco

The tournament disco will take place together with 2000 young people. Main attraction is the contest for Miss and Mr. Basketball.

Coach Pub

The Coach Pub is the cosy meeting place for coaches and referees after the games. Coaches who have lost a game with their team will get a free drink.

Dear referee,
We are looking forward to welcome you on our tournament "BASKETBALL WIEN 2012" (April 02 - 07, 2012). For each game refereed, you will receive 11 Euro. Like in the last years the guestcard (lodging in schools; 3 meals per day; tram ticket for Vienna; 85 to 125 Euro, depending on the type) has to be paid by you.Please order it together with the team you will come with. If you come by your own you have to buy your guestcard at arrival in Vienna at the secretariat. Please let us know:

1. Your referee-qualification;
2. If you are a player or coach of a team taking part;
3. How many games per day you would like to referee (if possible we will consider your wish);
4. If you have experience in refereeing U12 (Mini) games.
